For those of you who have visited hgaf recently you will undoubtedly be aware that my mum seems to have been ripped off. She was approached for a free draw to win mobility products. Anyway, to cut a long story short she seems to have lost £600...

I'm not sure what your options are over there but here we have several. The better business bureau is one. Check it out. Somewhere there has to be a place where you can go if you are duped. I dispise business practices such as those that prey on the elderly. Actually I dispise all shady companies like that. Did she sign something? Was it not explained fully? Sometimes the company will come to terms with you. If not there has to be another way. Start googling.

That's a shame, Dave. How dastardly some of these miscreants behave! Have you contacted the police or other authorities?

SO far I have contacted the citizens advice buruea (which is a nationwide consumer help place), the company has been rang on several occasions too and each promise of ring back has be broken.
Sandy she did sign a contract to buy the goods but when reading the back of the form it does state that we can cancel with 7 working days - which we did, but they refuse to respond. Another thing is they have got her paying the balance on credit over 10 months (no interest from what I gather), BUT she doesn't seem to have signed a credit agreement - which in this country at least is a legal requirment. This was the only thing that CAB picked up on...
I have decided to leave it this week and see if they respond and then return to the CAB to see what else they can suggest

It has just occured to me, Dave, that you could approach the Office of Fair Trading to see if they can help. I remember an occasion in the past when they were a great help over a dispute.

Oh Dave, what Dastard (if you know what I mean). I know there are people that take advantage of older folks that are not instinct with the last business tactics. It is like the people who reply to those emails from Nigeria (mostly) who profess they are God loving, about to die and have millions they want to go to a good cause (whatever) in America and all they need is your bank info so they can deposit the money in your account. The amazing thing is that there are so many people that fall for that.
I really believe that most people are honest but there are always those that are shady. I am sorry for your Mom.
