I sure do wish people would pay more attention when placing a call. Why is it most wrong numbers are early in the morning or late at night? I received a call this morning asking for a Mid. The lady was very nice and apologized but she did wake me from a sound sleep. I was nice and didn't say "yeah right" with a lot of sarcasm. I find I need to be more alert to be sarcastic. I was thinking about the call later (after a cup of coffee) and realized most wrong numbers are early in the morning or late at night. The late night ones are scary because usually it means trouble of some sort.

Yeah, I had one late last night looking for "Venus", I think I told her Venus wasn't to be found in this 'House'. The one's I really can't stand are the calls to my cellphone, which 'remembers' the number. I don't answer if I don't recognize the number, normally, but will trace it back over the Internet. If it's a local number and 9 times out of 10 a parent will say it was their kids playing on the phone - I just ask them to use greater parental control over their kids' behavior in the future and end the call. The nerve of some people's children and the nerve of some children's parents!

I get a few on my mobile as well as my home phone...I used to know someone (she's passed away since) who had exactly the same telephone number as me with the excpetion of the last digit which was 9 instead of 0 (which was mine), and yet I never got a call saying "Is Jill there"...I have even had messages left on my answer phone one form a doctor at a hospital saying somehting about test results and would I call them back - it wasn't even me!

For years, we've had the same person calling in the middle of the night, looking for Keisha, LaTonya, Bambi...I think we may have a number that's a digit off from the local house of ill repute... It always seems it is just about the time that the bars close...we also get calls from prison (and I've TOLD my family I don't have the bail money, so DON'T CALL!!! ) If it weren't for having elderly parents in two states I wouldn't bother to answer the phone at all! This started right after we moved into the house, and got this phone number (which we have now had for over 16 years!!). You would think that people would figure out after a couple of times, that they're NOT going to find who they are looking for, at this number.

Another one I hate are the computer generated calls. Sometimes you can tell by the initial absence of a live person at the other end. I quickly hang up if no one is there.

I know some older people who get really worried by those computer calls - they should be banned!!

I used to get calls at 5am asking if I would come haul their bull. I had a few good answers but did finally give them the number they were looking they needed to call. Another older lady would call and ask for Sandy. She would always say "you don't sound right" and go on talking. We got well acquainted. It took me a while to convince here my last name was not Mellott. My phone number is 1 number off the number for the airport here. I have had to apologize for not knowing flight arrivals and other information. That number is now somewhere near the phone so they can get it corrrect. A lot of the calls were long distant and the directory assistance either gave it to them wrong or they heard it wrong.

I'm afraid that if someone called me at 5 a.m. to 'haul their bull' I would just hang up for fear of what I would be tempted to say.
