When I turned on pc today there is just an ad on top of home page. No toolbars (Yahoo and Google are supposed to be there). How could that happen overnight? Then when I went to Yahoo mail it took a long time to come up. First thing I noticed was am email that said: Maeler=Demon (sp? 24hour support not available.(may not be exact. my short-term memory doesn't last more than 5 min.).Then I noticed it was over 1300k so I didn't open it. I've gottem mail back before from M-D but I didn't send any like that. Any ideas on either problem?TIA

Well, that's why I suggested two things - one, use the Internet Explorer browser, and two don't use any of those extra toolbars - Yahoo and Google and a lot of stuff which not only use up a lot of memory, but sometimes conflict with the operating system software. My suggested would be to first go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and select the extra toolbars to remove and then reboot and see what happens.
The Mailer Daemon thing is just some email system's way of telling you an email either didn't get sent to someone you thought you were sending to or something like that.
Let me know what happens.

I am using Internet Explorer. Amd I removed everything except Yahoo and Google toolbars. When I start I open IE and it goes to Yahoo, which is my homepage since I use that as my main mail. It's really weird Not to have any toolbar. Even the big red Y (for Yahoo) isn't there. But I can read my mail, etc. Have been tied up on the phone for quite a while so I'm going to Sign Off for tonight and see what happens tomorrrow. Maybr everything will reset itself overnight As for Mailer-Daemon, everytime I've seen it before it was because I maade a mistake in someone's address. This one I don't recognize.

I'm no expert but it sounds like your tool bar has become corrupt Tarradiddle! Try doing as Mark says and uninstalling your toolbar (You can always reinstall with a fresh download later on).

OK. Usually when I remove (or lose) something I can't figure out how to get it back again. But I guess I can try the toolbars. Today IE kept shutting off on me. So things were slow but I managed, not only read my email but did some shopping. My addiction. Trying to stop that is worse than quitting cigarettes.LOL Who can say I don't need clothes........and knick knacks......and toys for grandkids.......and anything marked down 50%? Thanks. Have a good day everyone

Update. Thanks. I went to do as suggested and according to control panel, programs.etc. Internet Explorer wasn't there. Someone stole it? I'm clueless as usual but I re-installed IE as if I never had it before and everything is OK. I hope.

Once downloaded (I would suggest you save it to your desktop) scan it with your anti virus software. Once you are sur eit has no viruses double click on it to install and follow the instructions

I hope all is back to normal, Tarradiddle. Computers can be a real 'pain' you-know-where sometimes, can't they?

Mark and Dabbit. I already downloaded IE. So it's too late to download and scan for virus as Mark and Dabbit suggested. And - guess what - I don't know how to do that. But everything seems to be OK. (You should hear my stories about trying (learning) to put gas in my car. And that was not very long ago. And just a few day ago I drove from gas station to supermarket with gas cap on top of trunk.) I know less about cars than I do about computers. So you can imagine how little that is. I am a good driver though.

Wow. I'm not THAT bad. I just always nade sure I could delegate the care of cars to someone who was willing to do it (and knowledgeable) But I do have to put in the gas now. For a long time after I learned to drive all service stations were full-serve. And gave gifts for fill-ups, Just in case you're too young to remember. As to my pc: It's good today. I cleaned out a lot of things last night. Only problem today is that IE closes sometimes. But it has always done that to me. I send back the error report but usually don't get anything back unless they say it wasn't their problem, it was somebody else. YIKES. I almost lost this when I tried to spell check. IE jumped in (about allowing pop-ups) and said I might lose what I was doing. That is a Pet Peeve of the year. Luckily I got it back. But no spell check.

Yeah, Tarradiddle, Microsoft's software can be really buggy, particularly IE. I keep having problems with it too, so it's not just you, LOL.

Oh tarradiddle I hope I haven't upset youi, I wasn't suggesting you were 'like the lady in the phone call' but when you mentioned about your car it brought that call back to me so I thought I'd share it. I apologise if I have upset you - but it was unintentional

Oh, I don't think she's upset, Dabbit. Just making a point, LOL.
That was a funny bit, though, where did you find it?

I hope not Mark - I worry about things like that - not everyone has the British warped sense of humour - even me at times!

I hope not Mark - I worry about things like that - not everyone has the British warped sense of humour - even me at times! OH NO. I always think I'm being funny (witty-maybe) and people don't understand. Now I know why. I must have the British sense of humor. My credentials: my father's family has been traced back to our first ancestor who came from England. I am the 11th or 12th generation in the USA. I can't remember exactly but it was published in a book I have (in 1928). Unfortunately information about the female side of each generation is limited. Name only. But since most were in New England and then in northern New York State I assume many of the wives were of English descent also. The name is Barton (which is a kind of farmyard, btw) and most were farmers right down to my father who decided to move to a city and do something else. I'm so glad. I liked visiting my relatives' farms but wouldn't want to live on one. (A lot of hard work for little return.) Oh my, I'm rambling on and that's not British-y. Must be from my mother's (French) side.
