I know it's an old problem. But lately I get an ad everytime I go from one page to another. I have something that' s supposed to stop them (and says it does) but the problem is the ones I get come on my browser. That doesn't seem fair to me. Can't get along without a browser and they are allowed to send me all these ads? btw, I use English, not the stupid names the "computer experts" use for things. Like "windows" and wallpaper. I'd like to put some curtains on my "windows" or maybe some are TABS(?) now LOL Oh I guess that this part should have gone on Pet Peeves.
Is there any way of stopping them???

You need a pop up blocker of which there are several available, one in IE7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx), google toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/T4/intl/en-GB/?utm_campaign=enGB&utm_source=enGB-ha-emea-uk-google&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=toolbar%20google&tbbrand=GFRG) (the one I use) and this one from Download.com (http://www.download.com/Pop-Up-Stopper-Free-Edition/3000-7786-10048866.html) are all free for personal use

I use IE 6 and when I click on Tools, the second choice on the drop down list is for 'Pop up Blocker'.

Yes, do that. I would also suggest the possibility of removing Google toolbar. Even though it has some nifty things on it, it is a memory hog and sometimes interferes with Windows. I had it for a while and got rid of it. The Windows Live toolbar is far more efficient as it was designed to work with Windows exclusively.

Mark is never going to give up on trying to get me to use IE and OE,etc. But I hate IE and OE and Windows in general. And I love Google and I am very stubborn! And unfortunately, although I am intelligent in most areas of learning, I am technically-challenged. LOL! And I should have said earlier that I need a pop-up blocker for Mozilla Firefox. I went to download.com (CNet) but not much help (for me). When I win the lottery -hehe- I'm going to buy a Mac. Or maybe those cute wireless laptops I see on tv all the time. They look like fun. Or maybe just a Winnebago and forget computers.

I use Google tool bar too but on Mozilla Firefox and have no problems with pop-ups. Mark what do you know about Mozilla. When this ancient computer broke down once more and was put back together (sort of), the fixer guy put the Mozilla Firefox and Google start page. I haven't had any more problems. Well if you don't count the fact that the 'puter keeps getting slower and slower. It really is on its last leg. I will keep it as long as I can. When it goes, it will be a very long time before I can afford another one. :-(

P.S. How many toolbars can one have? I have 2. Or more. I have Google and Yahoo for sure. And there are 4 more lines of things above them. I'm not sure what they are. Things just appear by magic. But they all have interesting things on them.

If you have any, there should only be 1. I would advise neither of those though - I removed both of them as being memory hogs and interfering with the operating system.

Still getting pop-ups but I'm leaning how to delete them really fast . I do not conrol my pc. It does things all by itself when I'm not looking. Sometimes I lose the green back arrow. That was a problem. But I did find out how to get it back. Now today I happened to notice 2 new icons on the toolbar. One says"no previous result" and the other "no next result". I can't imagine how they got there. And whyever would I want them there.!!!! But I'm not touching anything. No way. You know: when it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well, I can't recall the link offhand, but if you look in Admin's Corner or in the Help Desk, you might find it. If I find it, I'll send you an email or something.
