Ok on my laptop the number 2 key (when pressed with the 'shift' button depressed) should display the character ". However it doesn't what in fact it does show is @ (and vice versa so pressing ' with the shift key pressed down displays " not @)
How can I put this right so the key shows what they supposed to

Do you have a new laptop, Dabbit? My keyboard has always been that way, with the uppercase '2' displaying the '@' and the uppercase ' displaying ". That's fairly standard here, has it been the other way round in the UK, do you think. I've looked at my other computers and the keyboards are the same.

Yeah it is the other way round in the UK Mark - I think my keyboard has gone American on me...It standard here for the " to be above the 2 and the @ above the '....It has now gone back to normal would you believe it!!!

How long has it been doing that, Dabbit? Did you just make a software change of some sort? If for example you installed some software which might have a bearing on the keyboard function, it's possible that they overrode the bit that said UK versus the American standard. Can you still type a Pound Sterling sign?

Good! Did it just take a reboot or something then to solve the problem?

Yes, thing is, software like this can sometimes find errors which are causing problems such as yours. Have you changed any firewall settings recently? With the speeds you're achieving you should be having no problem unless there is a problem as yet uncovered or a firewall problem.

Hmmm....could be anything from registry conflicts to problems at the ISP then. Hard to tell not being on site.

Well, I guess ISP's are sort of like elevators - they have their 'ups and downs'. ;D
