Child welfare.Wow what a large topic. Let's break it down .Starting with child sexual abuse. I'm sorry to say that we have to educate our children at a younger and younger age. More people, more perverts. I always told my girls never to let anyone touch them if it felt wrong. There are good hugs and then there are the other kind. I know I had them when I was growing up and still get them from time to time. I taught them to speak out and speak out loudly. And whatever they did remove themselves from the situation immediately. That went for inappropiate language as well as touching. Just the other day Aleah's oldest(age8) needed to use the bathroom in a store. At that age he no longer wants to use the lady's room. Before he could go she had to tell him "don't make eye contact with anyone. don't talk to anyone and if someone tries to touch you run screaming." Sad but necessary. The whole time he was in the bathroom she watched the door and was getting upset when he took longer than she thought necessary. All parents should be that vigilant. Never let children out of site in a big store. Don't get so caught up in shopping you let too much time go by while your child is in a public bathroom. Tell them that it isn't always strangers that you need to be careful of. Friends, family members and teachers can hurt you. Sounds harsh and awful to educate a child that way but it's a fact of life. Take some time and look at the register for known child abusers in your area. It's a long list even for a rural area. How many have never been caught? Until we learn how to deal permanently with these human animals we need to educate their intended victims.

You're right - I answered you in a new thread to keep the topic separate from 'Welcome'.
