I was somewhat dubious about watching 'the hurt locker', simply because it isn't generally a genre of film I enjoy. But hearing the raving reviews and Oscars wins i took the plunge and watched it on Sunday with my family. The film centres a group of military men defusing bombs, and what they have to come across. Until I watched this I had no idea of what our troops go through from the heat of the weather and uniforms, to the people who place IED's. It was for me an eye opener, and really interesting from the start of the film. I would highly recommend it for watching.

Thanks for the input, Dabbit. Is it similar to the old program, 'Danger UXB' on television? I used to enjoy watching that.

Mark I haven't heard of 'danger uxb' before, so couldn't say how similar or dismilar they are. It is set in Iraq (modern day) and based on three main characters, and basically the sort of thing they have to face on a daily challenge.

Well, that's a bit surprising since it was an English production, but anyway, although it was not based on events from the Iraq war, but rather the WWII blitz, the premises are similar. Click on the picture ;D Used to be on British television channels all the time while I was living in France in the mid 90's, and also in the U.S., although the series was from the late 70's and early 80's.

Well, truth be known, the series only lasted for the one season in 1979 - in fact only 13 episodes on ITV, but I thought it was brilliantly done and executed. I have no idea why it was canceled since I thought the public loved it at the time. But if you get a chance to rent a DVD of some of its episodes you might enjoy it if you liked 'The Hurt Locker' as they dealt with similar issues, albeit different wars.
