That's just an example of a pet peeve of mine. For some reason I'm on a hopeless, one-woman, crusade to save the English language. I don't mind if a few words from other languages creep in. I mean messing up Good English. Seems like "um" has become the first word in every sentence for some people. Well, I shouldn't say it's a one-woman crusade. Judge Judy is way ahead of me. She got upset, and said so, when the powers-that-be recently approved "conversate" as an approved word. I,myself, am afraid we will someday be speaking in txt. I believe that may be why "my mistake" or "my fault" turned into "my bad". See? I would like to add that passwords are driving me crazy. I can't get to the Voice Mail messages on my "cell" phone (which should mean I'm in jail, I think) because I can't remember my password. And I can't ever get them because I need the forgotten password in order to prove who I am so I can change to a new password. Which I might or might not be able to remember.

Well, Meme, it just goes to show that it's always 'something', isn't it? My pet peeve regarding use of the 'King's English' is the youth of today's use of the word 'like'. I spent last week in New York and went everywhere by bus. Invariably, I sat next to a couple of teenaged girls, presumably a different pair each time, whose conversation was peppered with the word 'like' in almost every sentence.
'Conversate'? Gee whiz, that is awful. But have you noticed how many nouns are in danger of becoming verbs? My particular 'bete noire' is the new 'verb' "to transition".
Ain't it awful? ;D

The amazing life of our English. I love it. It is always changing. But I agree filler words are a real pain in my ...............head.)thought I was going to say something else?) I hate the use of me before the other person. Also when did people start using myself instead of I? I judge people by their vocabulary. If they can't make one single correct decarative sentence they lose my attention in a hurry.

Yes, we do have a rich language, don't we? That's possibly what makes it such a difficult language for people to learn if they grew up with another one. There are sooooo many ways of saying things and new words are being entered into our lexicon all the time. However, that's no excuse for those who have grown up with English as their native tongue not to speak it well and grammatically correct. It's really not at all that difficult, is it?

Beside terrible English, I hate the way many of our teacher dress today. Look worse than the kids and . . . .they are speaking the slang too. Teachers and soooooooo many parents are no longer setting examples for their children.
