Not sure if you have received news of the scandal in the UK regarding MP's (Members of Pariliament) expenses, if not this is the situation that has caused outrage in the UK (not least with me). An MP here gets an AVERAGE of £62,000 per annum (ABOUT $100,000). In addition they can do work as directors of companies and get paid a hefty sum too. Add to that they can make expense claims - many many of which are ridiculous and have cause an absolute outcry (the like of which I haven't seen before). Some of the expenses they claimed for include (but are by no means limited to): * A duck house for his pond (cost £1645) * Members of the family who work for their office (without actually doing any work) * Cleaning of an estate moat (yes moat) * Mortgage payments on mortgages that do no exist (mistakes of course) * Porn movies in a hotel (I kid you not) * Widescreen TVs (wouldn't we all love a new one) * New fitted kitchen each year up to £10,000 * Kitchen sink * Kitchen sink plug (yes 66p for a plug to stop the water running away)
How one earth they intend to restore the immense damage done is beyond me. I have just voted for our local and MEP, which I did wuite happily.
