It seems strange to me that an industry that is constantly fighting piracy still insists on 'spreading' the release of movies. usually Americ gets the movies first, then the UK, and then the rest of Europe. But would it not make sense to release them all on the same day, tghis way someone in America for insance couldn't make an illegal copy and bring it to the UK for copying. Of course I may be living in cuckoo land but what does everyone else think?

Well, just an opinion, but I'm not sure it's a function of timing - I think people just want to buy "on the cheap", regardless of whom they're cheating out of rightful revenues, and as long as there is a market for black market goods there will be a scoundrel willing to supply them.

we now have adverts before the creening of the film about piracy and telling us to keep our eyes open for people with cameras...

Yes, that's part of the catch - most pirated movies are of poor quality. But the main thing is that someone is being cheated out of their intellectual property rights.

Indeed and I have only every watched two pirate movies Troy and 101 dalmatians and the quality was so poor it was almost unbearable (someone loaned them to us knowing I love 101 dalmatians and not sure about how we got to borrow troy)....

If I really want to buy a movie, which is not often - I've bought a few like 'Madagascar', 'Chicken Run' and 'Shrek', etc, I'll usually go to Amazon.com after they've been released on DVD for a while and they're not so expensive.

Yes, that's what I do. Either Amazon or the Mass merchandisers usually have good deals on them after the movies have been out for a few months.

They offer free delivery here too as well, Dave, although the prices don't seem particularly low, I'd have to compare them to see if it would be advantageous to order from them. Now, we just buy the occasional movie that strikes our fancy, mostly PIXAR or Disney type stuff - types of movies most people think are made from children, but have references only adults will understand readily, more than likely.

Well, the thing is, that mostly we listen to classical music which seldom makes the charts... ;D They also have DVD's, however, and will use them for comparison the next time I want to buy a film.

Luckily, Amazon.com will also provide free shipping if the order is about $25. I don't know about in the Uk, though.

You're not at all alone, Dave, not at all. When I do comparison shopping it only makes sense to include any sales taxes, shipping/handling, etc to the sale price to get the final price. Some of the online comparison services allow you to do that and you can then make your selection based on lowest overall price or whatever.
