While taking a survey I was asked if I suffered from any of the following diseases or conditions. Reading down the list I came upon menopause. It's a disease? Lord love a duck! Ive been suffering from a disease and here I thought it was just something your healthy body did when the time was right.

To me no. I guess it could be but in the last few years I think the doctors have made it a condition or disease. They have made millions along with the herbal remedy businesses. Our generation seems to think that there is a pill to make you feel great no matter what you think you are suffering. Puberty was an awful time and no one ever told me to take a pill or said here are some hormones to get you through this. Well, menopause is the reverse of puberty. Granted some of the reactions your body has are uncomfortable but like puberty, this too shall pass. I think it's great that people are openly talking about it. That we have more information available. But then again the information could be a lot better. There are some commonsense ways to handle menopause but i feel the advertising, medical fields and herbal companies have exploited it terribly. It should be treated as a natural part of aging not a condition or disease. Rant finished.

Funnily enough they had a page (or six) about whether diabetes was a condition or disease...the debate ponders on, as to does the question whether you have diabetes OR are a diabetic?

I would think that it makes little difference other than semantic preference, Dave. One still needs the insulin, right? In spite of what it may be called.

Exactly Mark...But it does sometimes cause quite a heated debate and the letters went on for at least two issues of the magazines.
