Aunt Susan what exactly don't you get? I see you are in as a guest, I think Mark changed the settings so only members can post - so maybe you could register? If you have any specific problems do make a post I'm sure someone will be able to help (Particularly the computer genius that is - Mark)

Susan, as currently used on the Internet, the term 'forum' is a like a glorified 'Bulletin Board' of days gone by.
Generally, as here, a Forum, per se, has a certain theme - here, although certainly anyone is invited to join and participate, most of the subjects to be discussed are of probably more interest to mature adults of what is commonly called the 'Baby Boomer' generation, give or take a decade or so - we don't mean to exclude anyone, for any reason.
Anyway, given that the forum has an overall theme, within that a forum is normally broken down into categories, such as, in this case, 'Bloomin' Boomers', 'Fun For All', and so forth.
So, thus far, we have the Forum which is like a large room, the various Filing Cabinets, which are the Categories, and within those Filing Cabinets are Subjects being discussed - think of these as File Folders.
Look, for example, in 'Bloomin' Boomers' and you see several, such as 'Garden Corner', 'Juana Cookie's Kitchen', and so forth. Click on one of these folders to open it up and you see various 'Files' - these ' Files' are referred to as 'Threads' - or Threads of Conversation. Various people have started a Thread.
Open up 'Garden Corner' for example, and you see 'Threads' such as 'Questions for the Gardener', 'Garden Tools', and so forth. To enter any of these discussions, simply click on it and a page will open listing the beginning of the 'Thread' and any 'Replies' made to it. Sometimes these 'Threads' can go on for dozens or even hundreds of pages for days, weeks, months or even years.
At any rate, you can peruse that 'Thread' and if you care to, enter your own thoughts, ideas, opinions, or whatever. And, if you have a mind to, even begin your own 'Thread' or Topic for Discussion.
Anyway, the best way to 'get the hang of it' is by doing. Just login, using the name and password you used when you registered, and join it. That's all there is to it! And, as anyone here will attest to, we are a friendly bunch - there are no strangers, so just ask away of any one should you have a question. Also, there is the PM or Personal Message facility. Click on someone's name and it goes to their profile page. Click on 'Send a Personal Message', type in your question or comment, whatever, and then click on 'Send Personal Message'. No one but the person whom you are addressing will see your question. When they have replied there will be a notice at the top of the page, on the right which says 'Hey, susanhelene, you have nn messages, nn are new'. Click on this line and you will be taken to your messages.
