Tia (pictured below) is a new addition to our family - well my daughters dog. She was a rescue dog and is very thin and a little timid. However she is adorable and luckily for us she gets on with Fudge OK! We're not sure what breed(s) she is but she is ten months old. (Believe it or not Tia has had two baths since they got her two weeks or so ago and is brushed daily) She is onviously a naturally scruffy dog....

She is adorable, Dabbit! How did you choose Tia as a name?
She is really cute, and has an awful lot of hair, doesn't she?

She does have a fair bit of hair though it's not particularly thick...She is so thin too (Did I mention she was a rescue dog?) When we bather her yesterday I actually had a tear come to my eye when I wondered how anyone could possibly hurt anything so small...

It's amazing, isn't it Dabbit? How indeed could anyone abuse a child or helpless animal? It's totally beyond my ability to figure.

I agree, Mark, I don't see how anyone could abuse an animal. I had to turn the channel last night when I saw the Dog Whisperer put a spiked collar on a dog ("because that's what the owners used"!).
Your new family member is just precious, Dabbit! I wished I could add a dozen more dogs to my household--it's just those dang vet bills that would clean me out.....

I know exactly what you mean Twosteps...We recently took Fudge to the vets for her jabs and bought some flea treatment and she also needed some drops for a yeast infection in her ear (something she gets at least once a year) and the bill was £104 (and odd pence)...We were only in the consultation room for about fiv eminutes or so....No bad money if you can get it is it? I think I might not begrudge it so much if it was some animal welfare doing it which help rescue animals and protect them if you see what I mean. but it's just making someone rich isn't it? That said you can ask for the prescription and order it online which works out cheaper at somewhere like www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk

I guess I'm lucky since I have a vet who is a friend of about 30 years who charges me 'at cost' since he knows I'm an animal nut and am always picking up strays and finding them homes and such.

My daughter bought some flea treatment long enough for 3 months treatments at a cost of near £19

Probably worth the price then, for Tia's comfort and health. I think Charley's must cost a similar amount.

I just think the vets mark up the price so much it puts peopple off going to the vets, if they were to perhaps drop the prices a little then more people would take proper care of their animals perhaps. That said I would sell my house for my own dog and never see her suffer, in fact I think sometimes I over worry (if you can). For example I took her (when she was younger) to the vets because I thought she was underweight - it turned out she was fine...

When my own little dog was a puppy (over 16 years ago--and she has now passed way) she darted out our back door. Unfortunately someone had left the gate open. As I walked down our back stairs, I heard a car break. I saw the gate was open and ran to the front yard. The car continued racing down street and Colby was down and bleeding profusely. This was at about 8 o'clock at night. I called my vet of many many years and was told to go somewhere else. I had to drive almost 20 minutes to get to an emergency vet hospital. Well $5,000+ later, Colby was healed and home. My neighbor saw the whole thing. She said the car never even slowed down, even though the dog was crying and yelping.
Anyway this story is just to say Dave, that I understand the high costs of vet but when your pet needs the care, there is nothing as owners we will not to do help them. So I am with you.

It's nice to know that more people care for and love their pets than abuse and treat them horrible isn't it? People like that need locking away. Did the driver get arrested Maria?

I don't imagine it was ever discovered who the driver was, Dabbit.
