I hate comptuers at times, and as many of you know I have lost two laptops due to screen cracks. So I have just ordered a new laptop from Dell. This WILL be my last laptop for some years - as money has dried up and funds remaining are for our holiday... Luckily I have insured the Dell one against accidental damage for one year but hopefully will be able to exntend.
I so miss my own laptop and dislike my daughters ACER which has some VERY annoying habits!
Quick question for Mark: Mark you mentioned I should be able to transfer my files from my old laptop to a new one via a cable (and presumably software). What sort of cable do I need, and is it complicated? My little shrinking brain can't cope with too much at once.

Dabbit, the easiest way would be to find an 'enclosure' for your old hard drive. That will make it function as an external hard drive to your new computer and you connect the two with a USB cable. You should seek the advice of some local , say at an electronics shop, concerning which enclosure will work for your particular hard drive and which cable you will need to connect it to your new computer. Removing the hard drive is usually fairlly simple, not much more than removing a couple of screws in the back and disconnecting the hard drive from its connections inside. Be careful with it. It might even pay you to get the electronics shop to do it for you - making inquiries first, of course. It's easy enough to do, but if you've never been inside a computer before, then it could be problematic.

I thought it was a simple case of pluggin in a cable between to the two pc's and pressing a button... You may not believe it but there is no electrical store in our town that sells computers etc - the only shop that was computer related has closed. Unfortunatley the only person I know with experience in pc's was my daughter ex-boyfriend, with whom I have no contact. Never mind I'm sure something will work out, even if it does mean travelling to Cambridge

That's terrible, Dabbit. I take it then, that your town is quite small? I suppose though you could by an enclosure online.

It has a population of about 25,000 people Mark so not too small but far from big. But electronic wise there is nothing, apart from the supermarkets which only have them in catalouges. As for computer wel thats another story!
