Reading J-Co's recent experiences with pigs ears I got to wondering how and what we feed our dogs. Mine has dried food with perhaps one wet tin a week (weekends), plus scraps. If we have a roast dinner (especially Christmas time - she'll join us in that (though not at the table I have to add)).
Treat wise she is given a soft chewable treat which is easily broken down. She has never been given real bones for fear of splintering and went off raw hide almost as quickly as she grew fond of them.

Charley has a wet pack of Cesar twice a day with kibbles for nibbles in between those two meals. He also has a treat after successful 'walkies' and at bedtime. He doesn't get real bones at all - you are right they might splinter - especially chicken bones - which should always be a no-no for pets.

I have started a new section on our recipe page, for homemade dog treats. Five recipes were posted this morning (and are the RECIPE(s) OF THE DAY for today!). I intend to add more in the future. ;D
For his "regular" feeding Beau gets nothing but IAMS (recommended by both our breeder and our vet), dry food.

oh goodness.....should i 'fess up?? ok. here goes.... my pookies get a small treat each morning (just for getting up, i guess), 2 cups of dry food per dog per day, a big treat every time i have to leave them home and go somewhere without them (not often), the rest of my cereal each morning, scraps here and there and last but not least, we sometimes have an 'evening with orville reddenbacher'--POPCORN! they sit on the floor on the other side of the coffee table, i throw kernals and they catch it in their mouths. it's a wonderful game we play.

That's not so odd, Pam. My Charley and I often sit and watch TV while munching on popcorn. Other than that he gets a Cesar twice a day with perhaps some Iams kibbles in between meals and some occasional treats. When I get a chance I'm going to try some of Juana Cookie's treats.

Max, our first Golden Retreiver was especially fond of the mint cookies! His second favorite were the BBQ ones.
Dave, I will NOT be starting a doggie recipe site! Between this board, your board, the recipe page, cooking, creating recipes, designing and making dolls, my dog and...ummmm...what's his name... ...I've already got a full plate! But thank you so much for thinking of me...

I gather that, at times, his name is 'Mudd', Dave. Happens to all of us, it seems. ;D

Actually, I have trouble remembering his name... Maybe because around here, he's VERY low on the food chain!
