Missy, so called because she arrived just in time for Christmas, and also because she was great at throwing hissy fits! Her owner came and collected her several weeks later.

She was a handful, aye? I've had a few of those, handfuls that is. There was one named Mehitabel, who ruled the roost. A mottled tabby she was, and quite large and had her loving moods and feisty moods. You had to be careful to discern which mood she was in before getting too close and invading her 'space'.

What a lovely name Mehitabel is. Yes, you had to be careful with Missy or she would fetch you a smack on the nose!

But its fractionally better than one cat I had, bless her, who used to chew my big toe if I didn't get up quickly enough!

I have always had cats. The last year I have been catless. But about 2 years ago the neighbor girl came to me with her arm wrapped in a towel. I thought she was hurt, but when she unwrapped her towel there were 3 kittens inside. Two black and white ones and 1 all black. I named her Trouble. And She could cause trouble. Once whan sitting on the porch quietly reading with all 3 kittens on my lap all kinds of pandamonium broke out. My lap was now filled with wriggling kittens fighting with each other, except for Trouble. She was laying peacefully watching the activity. I calmed them and went back to reading but keeping an eye on my lap. Wasn't long til I saw Trouble very slowly reach out and bite a tail. the kitten that was bitten started batting at the kitten next to her. of course that kitten wasn't Trouble. She was laying very quietly watching. I later found her a great home. A teacher I had in high school had lost her black cat to old age and wanted another black cat. I warned her that where Trouble was there was trouble but she lost her heart at first sight. She called me a few weeks later to report that the first thing Trouble, now named Soot, did was claim a bright orange afghan, newly finished and intended for a gift, as her own and then promptly started taking over the basement room making it hers. Even Mr Teacher, not a great cat lover, fell for the little minx.

Cute story. It's amazing to me how we give our pets their names. One of the cats (there were 7 in all at one time) I named Carlotta, as we found her in a parking lot (car park). Mehitabel I named after the Archie & Mehitabel stories.
