I WISH some of the different birds would fly here, they just don't like NC.

don't you have some lovely garden visitors Mark...We get blackbirds, sparrows (house and tree), starlings, blue tits, finches, ring necked doves, wood pigeons, robins & thrushes. I love watching them on the feeders or nipping up the bread on the floor.

I have had a pair of brown thrashers nesting beside my property for years. I love watching them make the leaves fly when they are looking for food. It's like have 2 dogs madly digging. I have searched every year for their nest but can't find it. They build almost or on the ground in low growth. Very clever at hiding.

You know, I have field guides for North America, South America, The Caribbean, Central America and Europe - everywhere I traveled or lived. And, although spare time was limited, I always kept whichever guide was applicable close at hand, for easier identification. I must admit, some of the more impressive birds, were the Rooks in the UK, Dave. Some of those at the Tower were absolutely huge. Everytime I went people were chatting up the Beefeaters and taking their photographs and I was snapping the birds. I nearly fell in the water at Traitor's Gate once trying to get the 'perfect shot'... ;D

OH MY GOD! That Indigo Bunting is a stunner! Why don't we get birds like that here in UK?! All the birds you show are beautiful. I've got a bird table & bird bath in my garden. I get 3 or 4 greenfinches in my garden, doves, pigeons, starlings and sparrows. The starlings make me laugh as they're always fighting over the food!

And they're such groupies, too aren't they? The Starlings here tend to gang up on other birds and try to take over. Kind of like a BlueJay on steroids.

We usually have Cardinals in our yard (they love my blueberries!), but I haven't seen them, so far, this year.

My woodpecker is back at last. I was worried he was no longer around. Made me happy to hear him today and then finally see him. Also, 'my' morning doves make the most beautiful song. I love waking up to them.

Don't know how I could have forgotten them as we have a pair of Mourning Doves that nest across the street, but come to our backyard to feed as we always make sure to toss seed out on the ground for them! I do love to watch and listen to them.

Right on! Mine are the prettiest grey--almost with a lavendar cast. Gosh I love them so. We have mockingbirds too. I haven't seen them but my next door neighbor has. Today when I was driving through the city, I saw a hawk. Exciting.
At night I see the bats flying above. So neat. Several years ago I put up Bats houses with no results. I think living in the city isn't where they want to live.

We have a chipping sparrow coming to our feeder now, and sometimes when he is sitting there eating he will break into song. It is so sweet.
I watch for the bats at night also as we spotted them last year, and really enjoyed watching them in the evenings. They truly are acrobats the way they dive and swoop through the air.

Thanks Mari, the ring necked doves actually are quite braveand I have actually been within a couple of inches of them. The blackbirds (one of my favs) is quite a show off and definetley knows we watch him! Our blue tits are very bashful, the starling noisey and the sparrows and robins are just cute
