Aww, I love birds. I've got a bir table in my garden which I regularly keep topped up with bird food! They're really nice to watch!

I'm a trifle confused, Anita. I thought I knew what it was, a Black-headed Grosbeak, but given where you live, since this bird has a range in the Western States, I thought I must be incorrect. However, it finally dawned on me that you may have taken this photo while on vacation out west perhaps?
An idea, dabbit, a new game, the BIG Game - Bird Identification Game. Send everyone to their Roger Tory Peterson Field Guides, it would, LOL

Ooh, you are right, Mark. I hadn't noticed the differences in the beaks. I took into the consideration the different angles of the photos as far as the coloration was concerned thinking that you might not be able to see all of the color.

Well, the Grosbeak I saw is not even this one. What I saw in my backyard were Red-breasted Grosbeaks. I made the ID of Anita's bird photo from my trusty Field Guide. At first I thought from Anita's picture that it was a Baltimore Oriole, as you did, but when I looked up the Oriole I saw the beak was all wrong and kept looking....we both made the wrong ID because we're in the East, and Anita's bird is a Western bird, ;D

Well, that explains it all! I guess I will have to keep looking unless you are going to share with us what this mystery bird is, Mark?

Oh, sorry Ldy, I guess reading back over the above entries I wasn't quite clear that I thought that my original id of the bird was incorrect because of where Anita lives. However, she confided that a friend had taken the picture, so the assumption is that it is indeed the Black-headed Grosbeak, a Western bird. Sorry for the confusion...
