Recently I have had to write letters to two major companies in the UK registering my compaint with their customer services. On one occasion one of the companies actually took my money well over a week before they let me know the order couldn't be fulfilled! The other company still hasn't bothered to reply and the letter was sent before Christmas!
I wonder why I bother I truly feel like 'I can't be bothered' because I know you get no where.

It is indeed frustrating, Dabbit. That is one reason I use a credit card for all purchases. Then when some company doesn't fulfill the order in some way I have recourse through the credit card company.

In the UK you can only claim your money back on credit cards if the sale was over £100 I think, mind you debit cards have little or no protection.

Reason number 437 why I don't believe in credit cards, Dabbit. I've never understood their allure.
Well, here, credit card company's will withhold payment to merchants if you question a charge for good reason, such as not receiving the item, etc. Then, you are not obligated to pay that portion of the bill until the matter is successfully resolved, which gives the merchant an incentive to comply. There is not a similar provision there?

I have to confess Barclays were pretty good when someone went shopping on his credit card . THEY wrote to him asking about certain transcations AND froze his account while it was being sorted. Once he signed a confirmation letter that he hadn't actually bought airplane tickets and other stuff - they reimbursed him pretty quickly too.

I thought as much. I used to bank with Barclays whilst living in Europe - they are a good bank.

They're one of the most trusted I think along with Nat West and HSBC

I'm familiar with those as well, Dabbit. Barclays, though, had an office in most our embassies, which made it convenient for banking purposes, currency exchanges, etc.
