There is a web site (I will try to locate it) which tells you how to bypass those wretched menus. It is a different operation for each company, but it does pay if you can remember how to do it.

Fluffy, there's one called www.gethuman.com but unfortunately I think it's only for the U.S. and gives specific directions for most of the largest companies. However, some of the suggestions there might very well work for some companies in the UK as well. If you find another such site, please let us know... ;D

Yes, good for you, Maria! That is a pet peeve of mine also, and the children around here have slowly learned that if I am outside and they drop their candy wrappers and soda cans they will be reminded that they dropped them and that that is not where they belong. I offer to take the wrappers or cans from them and throw them in my own trash if they wish. Some do bring them to me while others take them to their own homes and take care of them. Now if the grownups would only learn. Unfortunately, with the grownups it's even worse as they will also drop their cigarette butts on the lawns and that is just disgusting! Worse than the trash if you ask me.

I thought of a pet peeve today, but I didn't know where to put it! Anyway, I was just watching a local news broadcast. I hate it when they first say what the story is going to be about, and then they basically use the exact same words to tell the story. All the newscaster did today was add the name of the person. It just sounded stupid. It's bad enough when they go to a different person that repeats the exact same thing, but she did it herself!

Well, Marcia, don't you find that television is a medium that's rarely well-done - no meat in it. ;D They sometimes seem to try to fill air time with nonsense because they have nothing of note to talk about.

I believe that local news stations (at least in my area) try hard to have current and relevant news. However, they do not all do a good job on national stories. For more national and international news, I watch the cable news stations. Of course BBC both on cable on radio. It is so could to hear what is happening with point of view from other another nation.
