I watch this film at the pictures and thought it was great...It is a family film and you really don't need children to watch it and enjoy it. The story revolves around a widowed man who has a family of small children who are for want of another word - uncontrollable. They go through Nanny after nanny, and as a final resort Nanny Mcphee turns up and begins them on a learning curb...The results produce an hour and a half or so of pure entertainment that as said is suitable for everyone to enjoy.

I loved this film. It was funny and made me laugh aloud. A good family film. I agree with Dave, even if you don't have children this is a good light funny film to see. Of course Emma Thompson (who is one of my favorite actors) did a good job. She goes from a rather ugly hag to an attractive woman. That I thought was rather interesting and ever so subtle; as well as almost thrown in. I know her looks were linked to the behavior of the children. Not as magical as Mary Poppins--another family favorite. ;D

I don't think I have ever seen Emma give even a mediocre performance. She is one of the greats! ;D

I will see it for the actors alone - what a cast, particularly Emma Thompson!

I got the DVD from the library today, and I loved it. I watched it again with the commentary by Emma Thompson which was fun and very interesting. Thanks for reminding me I wanted to see that movie. :-)

Do you belong to an online rental club anyone?

No, I never thought it would be worth the money for me, Dave, I watch so few newly released movies anymore. I just wait for them to come on HBO or something.

HBO? I got an offer from lovefilm.com to rejoin them and pay only one months rental fees for three months service. had I known I'd be fobbed off with all the 'not so modern' movies I might not have bothered! The best ones I have tried are Amazon and Blokcbuster for up to date releases

Oh, sorry - HBO is a premium channel on cable here, shows mostly movies, some sports events, etc., all without commercials, shows things which couldn't be shown on regular channels because of film ratings.

Somewhat...there are several 'Premium' channels here, such as HBO (Home Box Office), Showtime, Cinemax and so forth, for which we pay extra to the cable company - otherwise they are 'scrambled'...

I finally got around to watching this film the other night - sort of. I fell asleep about 1/3 of the way through, but I still have the DVD and will watch it again before I return it.
I hate it when that happens.

Everybody seems to have liked it - Maria, Marcia and Dave all said it was good. I will probably watch it tomorrow during the day so I can stay awake.

I finally finished watching this movie. It was very entertaining, if a big 'dark' - certainly not your father's 'Mary Poppins'! But it had a very talented cast and had a happy ending and as I said, affords great entertainment. If you acquire or rent the DVD, be sure to watch the extra features. It was highly amusing to see Colin Firth dressed as Nanny McPhee. ;D
