Fluffy thanks for this site. I have been peeking in now and then.
At the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, DC, there are cam site to see various animals. For months I have been watching a cheetah family and the new baby Panda. It is so amazing to watch them grow. The Panda wasn't even visible at first. Then for a while he only walked under his mom. Now he sleeps at the top of trees.

I clicked on the site tonight and was surpised to see the egg left alone in the nest. Within second the mother returned and settled down onto the egg. I read it should be hatching any day now.
Exciting and all so wonderful.

Hi all, I was checking out the eagle's nest this evening and reading more about it. Sadly it appears that the lone egg may not hatch. There could be several reason age of the pair of eagles or toxins from the environment.  As I was further reading I was further sadded by the following info: "I am told that orcas (killer whales) that now periodically die along the British Columbia and Washington coasts are so polluted and their bodies so loaded with poisons that it is illegal to tow their bodies out to sea or have them hauled to land fills. They carcasses have to be burned. A very sad statement on our polluted earth. Are these eagles, who also occupy the top of the food chain and eat the same basic foods as orcas, also contaminated. Very possibly. Maybe the reproductive success is going to be restricted to younger eagles that have not had so long to accumulated the poisons." I will keep checking the site waiting and praying for a new baby eagle. |

I understand that neither of the eggs were viable, but that a new nest has been located and
that a web cam has been set up to follow progress.

Fluffy, I am so glad you posted this site. I visit it every day now. I was sad at the loss of the eagel eggs but will watch this new site. Have you visited the Smithsonian Nation Zoo site yet? You might enjoy that site too. I have been watching , for a year now, a cheetah family (from birth) and watching the panda grow too. Panda is much more interesting as he is usually pretty active. It is fun watching him climb trees. Again thanks for the eagle site.  |

I start every day by visting the National Zoo. I can't wait to see what's going on there. Also, I sort of adopted the baby Panda (along with millions :-)) aswell as one of the Cheetah families. It gives me a great deal of pleasure. And the Zoo is a really a good one.

Do you watch all of the cams from time to time, or just one or two? I once rigged up a 'hack' to display several at the same time in little windows. The only problem is that each one consumes a considerable amount of bandwith, so there is a practical limit...

Yes I do watch the various cams each week. But I start with the Cheetah and Panda ones. I have been watching them each since they were born. However, the past couple of weeks, I have barely had time to breath,let alone watch the cams. I have been working 10 to 12 hour days because of an event that is coming up at work. Too much to do there. Can't wait for June 7 to come and go, so I can get back to my routine--watching my kids grow. :-)
