Am I the only one who has trouble with Outlook Express? I just changed to isp with my cable tv. Everything works well except mail. I don't like my isp's mail whatchmacallit. It's difficult to use. And so far it quarantines most icoming mail - even from the isp itself and emails i send to myself. So I set up outlook express. But I can't seem to use that right either. It won't let me open an attachment I sent myself. (A scanned photo tht I wanted to check before I sent it to someone else.). Just how does one make use of OE? I've been online for years but always used my servers mail or Yahoo before now.

Tarradiddle, here are the instructions straight from the horse's mouth at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/oe/setup.mspx - it's Microsoft's own explanation, or you might prefer the tutorial at http://support.magma.ca/appsupport/starting/oetutorial.cfm

Let me know if you have any trouble and I'll try to help you through it.

I don't know what's happening. I was typing a reply to a message from Maria and IE shut off. And I couldn't finish. I wnt back to home page finally (restarted) and got back on. Wrote this message (including more than this) and it got wiped out. After a few minutes of @##$%$%&& I got back on. IE has been shutting me down every few minutes lately. I checked on my ISP's homepage and it said M. was having trouble with IE6. So I ypgraded to IE7. So tonight it was even worse. It seems to be back to normal right now. But it sure is maddening to keep getting shut off in the middle of things. Well, now I will go and see if I have to start my message to Maria all over again. Ugh,. I hate that. And I do still have trouble navigating here. Must be because I'm not actually a Baby Boomer. I'm an aunt to a couple of them though. And could be a big sister. If I had a younger sister or brother.
P.S. I installed Mozilla Firefox. I thought I could use that when IE wasn't working right for me. But I don't know how. I get a message that it's now configured right.
P.P.S. The one thing MIE does well is drop down ads everytime I go from one page too another. And my Blocker is on because I have to click on it every time I DO want to open another link. >:(

One thing you might check is to make sure that you don't have any extra Toolbars stuck on your IE Browser. Everytime I've upgraded the Flash software it has stuck on the Yahoo browser extension, and I've had to go in and remove it as it interferes with IW functionality. Other things that interfere to greater or lesser degree are: Smiley Central, Google Toolbar, Webtools and others. Somehow, someway they reappear from time to time and I have to go in and remove them.

I would also recommend installing the free bit of software called Advanced Windows Care. The personal edition is available free of charge at:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Advanced_WindowsCare_v2_Personal_d4991.html

I would also recommend keeping your hard drive defragmented. There is a wonderful tool for this, free of charge for personal use, at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5318 This software works in the background, while you are doing other things to keep your hard drive constantly defragged.

These things should help somewhat, but keep in mind that software is no better than the multitude of programmers that work on it and usually entail millions of lines of intricate computer code and sometimes problems are encountered only rarely and others take a while to figure out how to solve them without causing other problems.

Every time I think that my pc is finally working fine - meaning I have learned how NOT to mess it up. My new motto being - if it ain't broke don't fix it, something goes wring. I still think there is gremlin inside that does things after I log off. Today, all of a sudden, with no help from me- the page (window?) is much smaller and the start menu is much wider. And I can't change either. (They were that way when I turned it on today.) I would appreciate any help. And if possible, sent to my email because I still have trouble finding my way around here. I DID, finally, find where to sign up for newsletter. I was looking for something I thought I posted recently but don't find that. Maybe I was just thinking about posting something. ..Also...I'd like to change from Maxine To Grandma. IOW, I need instructions on my image.Whew.

Well, lets work backward. Do you have an image you want to use for your avatar? If so, just send it to my address, couchmt@bellsouth.net - or, if not, do you want me to find you one?

As for the page sizes changing, etc., I'll have to cogitate on that one, as nothing occurs to me. However, if and when I find something that will help, or correct that, I'll let you know by email.

Finally, as regards, navigating around the forum, just email me anytime you have a question and I'll be glad to try to help. Also, anybody here would be glad to help also, just ask. Send them a PM or email. If you don't know how to PM (personal message) look at the top of the form and you will see a link to view your 'Personal Messages'. If you want to send an individual a PM, just click on their name somwhere, for example, on the left, where it shows who made what entry to a dialogue, and you will be taken to a page asking what you want to do - one of the choices is whether you want to send 'a Personal Message' to that person.

I'm still in Kindergarten re:computers. Here's current question: How do I remove stuff from my Start Menu? There are icons there for things I don't have, or at least don't use. On the other hand, there are things I would like to put on there and don't know how. When I moved (3 mos ago) I had to change ISP to Comcast. I have email with them also but i can't always remember how to get there except by Search.
How do I put comcast on Start.?
OOPS. Another question. When comcast was installed, I was supposed to get comcast email address and use via Outlook Exp. I guess that's how it works. Anyway, they gave me an email address with my last name in it. Only they misspelled it. And I haven't been able to correct the spelling with OE. Or thru comcast (thry don't have any humans working for them except the installers. :) Having big thunderstorm. See ya later.

Hi Meme, you disappeared from Chat before I could answer your questions.

To get something off of your Start Menu, click on the Start button, then locate the item you want to remove, right-click on it, and select 'Delete'.

To add something to your Start Menu, find the shortcut for it on your Desktop, or in whatever folder it resides in, and drag it to the Start button.

To correct the name you will have to go through Comcast. It might be easier to get them to add another user, and have that one be the correct one.

Let me know what happens. If you have trouble with Comcast, let me know and I'll write them if necessary.
